My new designer wine glass for dog trialling! A gift from my neighbor, we had a good chuckle over it. I think it's quite handy with the screw on top so one can walk and not spill. So, wonder what the neighbors really think of me.......................

Spring?

It is May and the grass is not growing. Last night on the 9th of May it snowed and was -4 C. What is with that? I finally finished washing the siding on the house, froze my hands and put the hose away before it froze. Forecast is for nicer weather next week.
Days are filled with feeding sheep, working Hank and Kip and watching TV with Mirk. The best thing you can do to cure a cold is the latter.

Time for a Change

Well this is it, we have decided to downsize. After we are done lambing and they are weaned, the main breeding flock of ewes are going to Bert and Betty Lukens in Melfort, SK. I will keep a small group for training dogs. We have listed our farm and hope to move down to a 5 to 10 acre place nearer to Armstrong, B.C.

Fun With Sheep

Today is a month before lambing so all the pregnant ewes had to be vaccinated and de-wormed. We use an Ivomec drench to deworm them and a few of them said it tastes like crap. Len's Mom was out and gave us a well appreciated hand. Nice to get it done. Here are some pictures of the day...

Boyz in the Hill

Nice to get sheep jobs done. The Rams were herded into the barn, had a pedicure, de-wormed and just a good checking over. We have 3 rams, a purebred Katahdin which is a hair sheep bred for meat and sheds his coat, 2 North Country Cheviots which are also a good meat sheep but have wool and need to be sheared. We will need to up our number next year as the flock increases.  We breed 1/3 of our Katahdin ewes to the Katahdin for replacement ewes and the rest to the North Country rams. They have a quicker weight gain and wider back so we can ship the lambs earlier. We chose the NC because they have the same vigor that the Kat lambs have and make a good cross.
